Hat City

Danbury was known as the  "Hat City" or the "Hatting Capital of the World" during the early 20th century, having produced nearly 25% of the hats in the United States.

Located 70 miles from New York City, Danbury is situated along the New York State border and offers its residents a superb quality of life with a mix of rural New England living and a cosmopolitan city center lifestyle.  Danbury is host to some of the region’s top cultural events and finest dining establishments.  The Danbury Fair Mall, one of the largest in New England, is a mecca for world class shopping and considered a retail oasis. While an ideal location for commuters, Danbury is also a strong industrial and commercial hub for the region and home to some of the area’s top employers including: Ge Capital, Grolier, Pitney Bowes, Danbury Hospital and Praxair.

Boasting over 1,600 acres of designated park and recreational facilities, Danbury sits on the shores of Connecticut’s largest lake, Candlewood Lake, and is a haven for boating, swimming and fishing.  Danbury Ice Arena is the home of a Federated Hockey League Team and offers many hockey and figure skating opportunities.
