The city that is now Shasta Lake was once five communities - Summit City, Project City, Toyon, Central Valley, and Pine Grove. These communities were established in 1938, the same year construction began on Shasta Dam. This dam would eventually turn a large portion of the Sacramento River into Shasta Lake. The five communities were later consolidated and the City of Shasta Lake was incorporated in 1993. Roughly 10,000 people live in the community today.


Shasta Lake is located in North Central California. The City of Redding, which has a population of about 90,000 people, is 8 miles south. Shasta Lake - the reservoir that shares its name with the town - is 5 miles to the north. Those looking for some big-town excitement can drive two hours south to Sacramento, California's capital.
