History

Steeped in exploration, agriculture and land development, the history of Oak Hills is closely intertwined with the neighboring city of Hesperia. Once a primary travel corridor, Oak Hill’s history dates back to 1869 when 35,000 acres of government land was purchased by Max Strobel. He later sold to a group of German land developers. While some settlements came along with the railroad in the 1880’s, Oak Hills remained largely undeveloped until Hesperia’s rebirth in the 1950’s. One of several unincorporated communities of Victor Valley, Oak Hills is now home to over 8,000 residents.

Location

Situated in the High Desert region of San Bernardino County, the community of Oak Hills is located 35 miles northeast of San Bernardino and 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Located near the summit of Cajon Pass, Oak Hills offers the advantage of being closer to the more populated cities and job centers in San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Oak Hills is bordered by Victorville, Hesperia, Phelan, and Summit Valley. Oak Hills conveniently located along Interstate 15 and Highway 395.

Oak Hills Real Estate

Oak Hill’s real estate primarily consists of newer, upscale homes on large lots, typically 2 acres or more. Housing styles range from modern two-story homes to sprawling ranches or equestrian estates. Close proximity to the Inland Empire’s larger metropolitan areas makes Oak Hills a popular choice among commuters, industrial and commercial users. Home prices range from $200,000 to $750,000 or more.

Life in Oak Hills

Positioned on the edge of the Mojave Desert, Oak Hill’s arid climate offers a unique sampling of seasons. Summers are typically hot and dry while winters bring the possibility of snow. Strategically located within the Victor Valley and easily accessible via Interstate 15 and Highway 395, residents enjoy an abundance of year-round recreation opportunities. There are fishing and boating in nearby Silverwood Lake and skiing in the winter at Big Bear and Wrightwood. There are also numerous attractions available just a short two-hour drive away in Los Angeles and Orange County.

Oak Hills residents are served by the Hesperia Unified School District. The district consists of three high schools, two continuation high schools, three middle schools and twelve elementary schools. There are also several private and charter schools available.
