Welcome to Decatur, Georgia, an intown suburb of Atlanta. Founded in 1822 at the intersection of two Native American trails, Decatur has recently developed into a trendy, progressive city with a high level of community involvement, making it truly feel like a small town with all the benefits of the big city.
As the county seat of Dekalb County, Decatur offers its residents all the amenities of a big city, next door to a bigger city. Depending on your mood, head to Eddie’s Attic for music, the PushPush Theater for performing arts, the Seen Gallery for exhibits, or the wonderful museum scene – DeKalb History Center and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Residents of Decatur send their children to primary school at Glenwood Elementary, Clairemont Elementary, Oakhurst Elementary and Winnona Park Elementary. This is followed by Carl G. Renfroe Middle School and Decatur High School.
Decatur is also home to Agnes Scott College, Columbia Theological Seminary, Georgia Perimeter College and Emory University is located just northwest of the city.
