March 6 & 7 - 2010 Maple Syrup Tour

Join North Carolina's only commercial producer of maple syrup for their second annual Maple Syrup Tour. March 6 and 7, Maple Creek Farm will be offering tours on the hour for visitors to see the maple syrup making process from tapping trees to cooking syrup. Hike up through the "sugar bush" to see the taps and tubing, visit with farm animals, smell the sweet steam of cooking syrup, and sample fresh syrup and maple sausage.

March 12 - Bela Fleck - The Africa Project

Béla Fleck is often considered the premier banjo player in the world. A New York City native, he picked up the banjo at age 15 after being awed by the bluegrass music of Flatt & Scruggs. In on-location collaborations with musicians from Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal, Mali, South Africa and Madagascar, Béla Fleck explores the African origins of the banjo, the prototype of which was brought to American shores by African slaves.

March 19- 21 - Western Carolina Home Show

Western Carolina's premier Home Show since 1976. The Home Show features displays of the latest home construction techniques, materials and products. Home furnishings, home builders, lawn and garden equipment, landscaping, pools and spas, home financing, appliances, home security and entertainment, decorating ideas, decks and patios, sporting goods, heating and cooling equipment home repair and renovation, and much more.

March 20 - Asheville Artisan Bread Festival

Forget the low-carb diet for the day and treat yourself to the 6th Annual Asheville Artisan Bread Festival! Sponsored by 15 local artisan bakeries, this festival is a celebration of the art and craft of bread baking. In the morning the 'bakers showcase' attendees can sample bread from all the bakeries and talk to the bakers. The afternoon features hands-on workshops, lectures, and demonstrations of all aspects of bread baking.

March 20 - "Eat Local - Grow Your Own!"

Buncombe County Master Gardeners will present a Spring Garden School—Gardening in Buncombe County—on Saturday, March 20 at AB-Tech's Ferguson Auditorium. Registration will begin at 8:30am and classes will be held from 9:00am -3:30pm. The theme will be home vegetable gardening, “Eat Local - Grow Your Own!".

March 27-28 - WNC Orchid Society Show and Sale

Occurring in the first week of spring, the Annual WNC Orchid Society Juried Show and Sale kicks off the Arboretums schedule of events for 2008. Hundreds of orchids fill the Education Center in this annual show that also features orchid plant and supply vendors. Educational classes offered throughout the weekend, and Orchid Society members are available to answer questions and provide orchid-growing advice.
