Winter Park Real Estate

Winter Park FL homes stand on land that was once a resort community for wealthy Northern families.  Chartered in 1887, this community is still full of opportunities to buy valuable real estate.  In mid-February, 2009, the median price of homes was $339,000.  Winter Park FL foreclosures, however, had a median price of $170,043.

More About Winter Park

Winter Park has an Old World flavor to it, being the first centrally planned community in Florida and featuring many cafes and bistros in its downtown core.  The arts have a strong presence here, with museums, galleries and annual festivals celebrating the creativity of the area’s artists.

The annual Winter Park festivals include the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park (“the 3rd-oldest continuously operating Bach Festival in the United States”), the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival (which celebrated its 50th year on March 20, 21 and 22, 2009!), and the Winter Park Concours d’Elegance, an event celebrating automotive design.

Winter Park is known for its educated population; over 50% of Winter Park adults have post-secondary degrees.  Not surprisingly, Winter Park FL home owners tend to be employed in white collar jobs and are relatively wealthy compared to the Florida average.

Winter Park FL homes are attractive to families for their proximity to Orlando, good schools, low crime rate and post-secondary educational opportunities right in the community.  Rollins College, a liberal arts college, and Full Sail University, geared towards the entertainment industry are located right in Winter Park.  Florida homes can’t usually boast close proximity to post-secondary education like Winter Park homes.

Winter Park is also known for its dedication to providing quality of life to its residents.  Since Orlando sees many commuters coming from and through Winter Park, the city has taken measures to ensure that speeding and antagonistic driving are kept to a minimum with a combination of attractive and speed-unfriendly brick roads, strict speeding limits within the city, and the promise of a frowning policeman in one’s window if one flouts the laws.  This has resulted in a much safer community for Winter Park FL home owners.

According to the City Of Winter Park 2008 Citizen Survey, Winter Park FL citizens were very satisfied with the city government, services and taxation.  The top priorities were the maintenance and improvement of present park facilities and further support of the Winter Park Public Library.  Citizens were also concerned about the standards for Winter Park FL new homes and remodeling.  Having homes built that reflect the atmosphere and values of the community are a high priority with Winter Park FL home owners.
