Absolutely stunning historic home in Colonial Revival style. This home was built by Henry Schintzler and started in 1909 and finished in 1911 at a high cost for its day of $20,000. It was built as an anniversary present to his wife Albertina. Henry was a very successful saloon and liquor distributor in the early 1900's. You walk in the door to a 23' x 17' oak floor foyer with the grand staircase to the south. There is an original safe still in the home in the closet in the foyer. All of the intricate woodwork is original and all but a couple ceiling fans are original lighting fixtures. There is a total of 5 fireplaces, with the Library being the only one working now. The front door is framed by 2 stained glass sconces with the address of 1002 (Douglas was called Lawrence street when this home was built) and green initials H S for the owner. Original stained glass windows are visible from the entry. The light on the Null post going upstairs is original, and per Victorian tradition these were placed on the Null post when the home was paid for. This home is on the local historic register, and could be put on the state and national register. The home is furnished with some of the original furniture and fixtures as seen in 1911 photos of the home. (Some available for sale with home on separate bill of sale.) During WWII and for some time after, the home served as a dormitory for girls named Esther Hall. The foyer coat closet was the telephone room and graffiti from that day is still visible. The front foyer also has the office, which was the first Wichita location of the Elks Club, and served also as the Men's only poker room. All the original fixtures in that room have Elks heads on them. The room has a pass through drawer for food to be passed in, since women were not allowed in the room during meetings. Off the foyer to the north features a large parlor with an adjoining library. The woodwork on the main level is stunning and original. The seller has just completed a yearlong project of painting plaster decor on the ceilings by hand with the original type gold leaf paint with actual gold in it, back to the original condition. Off the formal dining room is a 1/2 bath in the room that used to be a "Butler's Pantry". The kitchen has been redone since it had no kitchen when the current owners purchased it, because it had been an office for an oil company. This home features 5 bedrooms. There is also a finished 3rd floor that we don't believe is reflected in the courthouse records. This served as an open dormitory during the girls home time. This home has been a centerpiece of several historical home open house days. The house has been owned by the same family since 1992 and restored as a residence. This is a rare opportunity to own a truly historic piece of history. The home features a HVAC zone for all 3 floors (except basement) with the 1st and 2nd floor unit being high efficiency units.

This is a great business opportunity for someone. This former painting contractor had a very nice facility. The main shop is 28'deep and 33' wide. There is also an enclosed 28'x11' storage room that could be openend up to expand the primary garage space. The seller has also built on an attached 26'x15' storage shed that could be openend into from the main shop. Another detached 9'6"x19' shed also sits on the property. There is an old house that has been used as office space that needs some work. The seller is willing to do that work with an acceptable offer depending on the work requested. The house and main shop are zoned Light Commercial. 1706 Meridian (attached to the property) which has the detached shed and serves as parking is still zoned as residential. The whole property is fenced and gated. 2 primary gates serve the front of the property and the rear of the property into the alley. This property would be perfect for an automotive type shop as doors could be added to the south of the building easily to provide drive thru service. Ceiling heights will accomodate lifts and the size of the lot allows ample on site storage.
