Feature Community of the Month:
Celebration is a census-designated, unincorporated community, master-planned by Walt Disney World Resort. Walt Disney has largely released control of Celebration, with only a few Disney businesses operating in the community presently. The design garnered the community the 2001 "New Community of the Year" award from the Urban Land Institute.
Celebration is unlike any other small town in Florida. At Christmas, there is always snow - made of soap flakes - and fall brings carefully designed reproductions of classic autumn leaves. There are many events throughout the year: community yard sales, a "Posh Pooch" event, art shows, the annual Radio Disney Holiday concert, an exotic car festival, the "Great American Pie Festival" (which can be seen on the Food Network), and impressive 4th of July celebratory fireworks, to name a few.
A "New Urban" community, Celebration is one of the most famous examples of this type of design. New Urbanist communities are a reconception of the urbanism prior to the dominance of the automobile, where walking, cycling and public transit were the norm. Celebration designers strove to recreate the concept of the small town where everything is within walking distance, homes are close to the street (encouraging socializing), and there is plenty of green space for outdoor pursuits.
There are eight neighborhoods in Celebration:
Keeping with the vision that Disney first had of the ideal small community, Celebration homes are built to pre-approved specifications, but they are quite flexible in terms of living space. Designs include Colonial, French, Mediterranean and Victorian homestyles. Homes come in all sizes, from cottages to large estates. However, most homes are on the smaller side, in favor of more activity and socialization out-of-doors.
Condos in Celebration are also in high demand. Condominiums allow residents to enjoy all Celebration has to offer without the necessity of home maintenance or repair. Each neighborhood in Celebration has a number of condominiums. Of all the real estate in Celebration, condos are the most economical way to purchase property.
Celebration residents are committed to keeping their town clean and their homes in good repair, which bodes well for real estate values. With Walt Disney World Resort connected directly to the community via World Drive, this is the ideal place to live if you or your family have a passion for things Disney. If you love the idea of living in a town that brings the fairy tale to you, come and explore Celebration, Florida.
