Lyme shares the eastern shore of the mouth of the Connecticut River with Old Lyme, and reflects a heritage going back more than 325 years. Townspeople show a strong resistance to change. They want Lyme to stay just the way it is, and would prefer recovering the way it was. For example, there is only one traffic light in all of Lyme's 33.0 square miles. The town is inhabited by about 1,900 people year round. In 1962 it also became home to a resident moose. Per capita, income of Lyme residents is ranked at number 19 out of 169 towns in Connecticut.
