About East Haddam, CT

The town of East Haddam in southeast Connecticut is located on the east bank of the Connecticut River. Originally settled around 1670, the town was incorporated from Haddam in 1734. Once a commercial center because of its location on the Connecticut River, East Haddam is now primarily a tourist town. At present many buildings essential to the old river town ambiance of East Haddam are preserved, and its highlights are the schoolhouse in which Nathan Hale taught in 1733 and the Gelston House, which has a history as a tavern dating back to 1736. The Goodspeed Opera House, located in East Haddam, is renowned for sending new musicals to Broadway.
