There’s a well-known proverb that says, “the well beaten path does not always make the right road”.  Taking a step off of my own beaten path led me to a career in Real Estate, and an opportunity to actually make a living doing something I love, with people I love to be around.
Before finding real estate, I spent many years immersed in the world of music. I’ve played the trombone for over twenty years and have a Doctorate in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California.  For over a decade, I’ve taught music courses at the college level and performed as a professional jazz musician. 

As an art form, jazz is defined by the concept of improvisation – jazz musicians create melodies through their ability to instantaneously react to the music around them. However, jazz artists also rely on what they have learned in their studies to guide them in making quick and reliable decisions.  As a real estate agent, I use the same method for adapting to unpredictable situations. My training, knowledge and expertise guide me in resolving difficult challenges, while my unique background, passion and creativity help to set me apart.

My years of teaching have helped me to develop skills that are vital to my success as an agent. I’m able to easily talk with all types of people, and can clearly communicate concepts that are often difficult to understand.  As a buyer’s agent, I love having the opportunity to constantly meet new and interesting people and to become a small part of their story – but I realize that chatting with people is just a small (and fun) part of what I do.  Much of my time is spent on working out the details--a side of the job that takes a great amount of organization and the ability to multitask efficiently.  I enjoy both aspects of the job, and find that they fit my personality perfectly - I’m someone who is passionate and enthusiastic while remaining detailed oriented and driven by a strong work ethic.

I’m fortunate to be a part of an amazing team led by Sue Eller – another musician turned Realtor – and together we look forward to continuing to help buyers and sellers find their paths while navigating the exciting (but unpredictable!) world of real estate.

Matt grew up in the beach side city of Long Beach California, where after spending 11 years in the Antelope Valley, he returned to attend The California State University of Long Beach. Matt graduated from CSULB in 2010 with Bachelor of Arts Degree in Design with emphasis in Interior Architecture. 

The Design program at CSULB gave him the great opportunity to explore multiple fields of design. Matt feels his "eye" for interior design improved dramatically with the programs formal training in: graphic design, display and exhibition, furniture, and environmental communications. His education led him to the philosophy that: “(For the most part) Design is relative. When you have acquired knowledge of one specific field of design, it can only improve your perspective in other fields of design.” This Philosophy played a big role in his decision to pursue a career in real estate. 

After school he took his knowledge and strong desire for residential architecture to the next level. He began his career of Real Estate in the great city of Los Angeles, working for two extremely knowledgeable teams.  His skills of interior design, interior decorating and graphic design became an extremely valuable part to both teams. Offering his clients not only transactional support, but also a designer touch to the every home buying experience. 

It is important for Matt to bring a sense of integrity, respect and ethics to every aspect of his life, especially his career. He also feels that surrounding himself with creativity and creative people is a highly valuable aspect to life, which makes him a fit right in with Sue Eller’s Team!
