Colorado Property Tax Exemptions….Are You Missing Out?

In Colorado, our State Constitution allows property tax exemptions for senior citizens and disabled veterans. The Senior Homestead Exemption Act and the Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption program offer up to 50% of the first $200,000 in actual value of a primary residential property.  In addition (but separate from the Senior Homestead Exemption Act), Colorado offers the Colorado Deferral Program to assist qualifying senior citizens with deferral of their property tax payments.  Please read the fine print because this does allow the State to put a lien on your property!

If you are a senior citizen or disabled vet, be sure to check out the Office of the County Assessor website to see if you are eligible for these exemptions:  http://www.asr.elpasoco.com
