Current Trends and Facts of Rogers Park Chicago

With more affordable housing, Rogers Parks' residents can gain a similar lifestyle of Near North Residents with locations near Lake Shore Drive.

With eight beautiful beaches in Rogers Park, Lake Michigan is always just a few blocks away with many recreational activities, such as swimming, boating, fishing, walking and relaxing as well as small parks along the lake, which is ideal for its many growing families. Rogers Park offers many wonderful shops and restaurants influenced by a wonderful diversity of cultures. The community also supports many art and coffee houses, especially along on Sheridan Road.

Distinctive Housing in Rogers Park Chicago

Rogers Park's housing ranges from large Victorians and bungalows, to converted condos and multi-unit buildings. Housing is affordable, but noticeably on the rise. As there is a high-rise construction ban from Sheridan Road east to the lake, most buildings along the lake area are either low-rise or two- and three- flats. Overall, the community has grown with hundreds of new affordable units being developed each year.

Background and History of Rogers Park

The Rogers Park area was developed on what once was the convergence of two Native American trails, now known as Rogers Avenue and Ridge Boulevard, pre-dating modern metropolitan Chicago. The Potawatomi and various other regional tribes often settled in Rogers Park from season to season.

Rogers Park was named after a pioneer settler and developer Phillip Rogers. Rogers often traded and worked with the local tribes. Envisioning a future settlement, Rogers eventually purchased the land from the tribes for later development.
